The road we know best

The A6 runs straight through our patch: Heaton Chapel, Stockport town centre, Heaviley, Great Moor, Hazel Grove, High Lane, Disley and up to Buxton. We are on it every day.

It is also a road with very little safe stopping room through the built-up sections, and a long, steep climb once you pass High Lane.

Where breakdowns happen

In town, most calls are stop-start faults — batteries, starters, clutches — often at the lights around Heaviley and the Hazel Grove junction with the A555.

Past Disley the pattern changes to heat and drivetrain problems as the road climbs towards the Peak.

Getting off the A6 safely

Side streets, pub car parks and retail car parks all make better waiting places than the carriageway. If you can reach one safely, do, and tell us which one you are in.

Can you recover from the A555 as well?
