When to call for breakdown recovery

Some faults can be dealt with at the roadside. Others mean the vehicle should not be driven another mile. If there is a warning light you do not recognise, a loss of drive, a strange noise from the engine or gearbox, smoke, overheating, or the car simply will not restart, recovery is the safer option.

Tell us what happened when you get in touch. If it sounds like something straightforward — a flat tyre, a flat battery — we will say so, because a roadside fix is usually faster and cheaper for you than a full recovery.

What happens when your vehicle is collected

We confirm your exact location, the vehicle details and where you want it taken before anything moves. Cars are loaded onto a flatbed and secured properly rather than dragged, which matters for low vehicles, automatics and anything with driveline damage.

If you are travelling with passengers, tell us how many when you call so we can plan for it.

Recovery straight into a workshop

Because Stockport Recoveries works alongside Stockport Mechanics, we can recover a vehicle and get it looked at rather than simply leaving it on a driveway. If you would rather use your own garage, that is completely fine — we will deliver it there instead.

Questions

Common questions

Where can you take my vehicle?

Anywhere you need within reason — your home, your usual garage, a bodyshop, a dealership, or our own workshop through Stockport Mechanics. Longer-distance destinations outside Greater Manchester can also be arranged.

Can you recover an automatic car?

Yes. Automatics should generally be transported on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground, which is how we move them.

What information do you need from me?

Your location (a postcode, what3words or a road name and nearest junction), the registration, the make and model, what has happened, and where you want the vehicle taken.
